LIST: Five OPM songs to add to you Christmas playlist

As a predominantly Christian country, the Philippines is known for one of the countries which have he longest Christmas celebrations.

Christmas songs are blasted in malls, restaurants and other places while radio stations provide a steady stream of Christmas tunes as early as September.

Jose Mari Chan's "Christmas in Our Hearts" has proved to be original Pinoy music's most enduring Christmas hits.

This year, Filipinos will be celebrating the most wonderful time of the year a little bit differently because of the pandemic.

We've compiled a few OPM songs to add to your Christmas playlist as we celebrate Christmas under the new normal.

1. "A Brand New Christmas" by Martin Nievera featuring Louie Ocampo

Frequent collaborators Martin Nievera and composer and arranger Louie Ocampo once again teamed up for a timely Christmas song, perfect for the time of the pandemic.

Their new song "A Brand New Christmas" talks about celebrating Christmas in the new normal.

2. "Tuloy na Tuloy Pa Rin ang Pasko" by Apo Hiking Society

"Tuloy na Tuloy Pa Rin ang Pasko" by Apo Hiking Society was released in 1991 but its lyrics remain relevant until today.

It might not be specifically talking about the pandemic but it speaks of celebrating Christmas during a difficult time.

The songs reminds us that while we might lack ofmaterial things but power of love and faith in Jesus Christ is the real reason behind the season.

3. "The Closer That Christmas Gets" by Kayla Rivera

"The Closer That Christmas Gets" is a song by Filipino-Canadian singer and actress Kayla Rivera.

The song's lyrics talk about spending Christmas apart from loved ones, making it a timely song for celebrating Christmas during the pandemic where we have to keep our distance from each other.

4. "Keso de Bola" by Jo.E

"Keso de Bola" by Jo.E is a song written for those who have relatives who are working as overseas Filipino workers or for those who might find themselves in a long-distance relationship.

The lyrics talk about a person hoping that his or her loved one's promise to come home for Christmas comes true.

The song is one of the nominees for Best Christmas Recording during the 2020 Awit Awards.

5. "Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko" by various Kapuso artists

"Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko" is the song for GMA Network's Christmas station ID for 2020.

The song is about finding strength in one another as we face Christmas together during difficult times.

Top Kapuso stars such as Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards, Asia's Pop Diva Julie Anne San Jose and Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista, together with their Kapuso peers, participated in singing the song.
