Glaiza De Castro's fiancé David Rainey gave a sneak peek of their cafe in Baler named Cafe Galura.
In his Instagram Stories, the Irish national shared photos of their newly-built cafe designed by Jovanne Lagman-Faraon, a Baler-based surfer and architect.
The cafe's interiors are modern and industrial, exuding a laid back ambiance, which is a perfect hangout spot for surfers and beachgoers.
According to Jovanne's Instagram post, the space they are refurbishing was previously a residential house.
"To cut costs, industrial lighting was considered to eliminate major electrical works. The kitchen is newly built with subway tiles as a major design [element] of the wall and aged wood planks were used as countertops glassed with food-grade epoxy resin. Clean, white cabinet doors and finger pull handles is a must," said Jovanne.
The architect worked on three renovations to improve the appearance of the building.
She used pipes and wood planks for the main entryway of the cafe, and adjoined white horizontal plank accents to create a homey feel.
"Considered the wall to be a focal point upon entering the cafe with white horizontal planks which [were] also used for alignment. The toilet has a louvered door to achieve ventilation in the space.
"The middle room is actually a storage so a jib door was used to 'hide' it from customers and naturally prevent them from mistakenly opening it. The far right [door] is the main gate entryway from the roadside made of pipes and wood planks secured with a double lock," Jovanne shared, detailing the facelift.
The house's outdated tiles and railings, and unfinished walls were also refurbished and replaced.
Jovanne said, "Made use of 'cement finish' for the floors and stairs, maintained the industrial look with a modern touch. The black tubular railing is the cafe's second focal point."
In O/C Records's virtual press con last January, Glaiza said David, who has a background in coffee business, will manage the cafe when he settles in the Philippines.
David also has a cafe truck business in Donegal, Ireland, specializing in artisan coffee and homemade traybakes.
