'Suklay Diva' Katrina Velarde marries musician boyfriend Mike Shapiro

Singer Katrina Velarde is now married!

The singer and social media star has tied the knot with her American boyfriend Mike Shapiro.

Katrina posted a photo on Instagram and Facebook of her with Mike taken during the ceremony held in Tagaytay.

Katrina and Mike's wedding was supposed to take place in July last year.

The pandemic forced the couple to reconsider their plan, however.

Katrina gained fame after she joined a reality singing competition in 2013.

She earned the moniker “Suklay Diva,” thanks to a viral video of her singing a Beyoncé song while using a comb as an improvised microphone.

“I've been keeping that comb for many years, since 2011 when I bought it for P10 at a sari-sari near our place,” Katrina told entertainment columnist Ricky Lo in 2019.

“We were poor and we couldn't afford to buy a wireless microphone so I've been using that suklay as my mike when I rehearse.

"Nakasanayan ko na kaya hanggang ngayon, paminsan-minsan 'yon pa rin ang ginagamit ko kapag nagpra-practice ako.”

Her videos impersonating Filipino and international music artists have gained notable attention even abroad, particularly from YouTube “reactors.”

Katrina met Mike through singer Gary Valenciano. Mike is Gary's drummer in his U.S. shows and a regular visitor to the country every time international singers Sergio Mendes and Kevin Lettau have concerts here.

Mike has also worked with Justin Timberlake, Black Eyed Peas, and Natalie Cole.
