Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez wins head-to-head challenge

By Ron Lim

The chances of Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez bringing back another beauty pageant crown for the country is looking good as she wins one of the Miss Globe pageant challenges.

In a post on the Miss Globe Facebook page, Chelsea was announced as the winner of the pageant's head-to-head competition. Named alongside her were the representatives from the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Columbia, and Ghana as second to fifth placers, respectively.

The final winner of the head-to-head challenge was determined by online votes, and now Chelsea gets an advantage in the scoring to determine the next Miss Globe.

Chelsea had already made it into the finals of the Miss Globe talent competition with her performance of Rihanna's song “Diamonds.” The finals of the Miss Globe talent competition was held on October 9, with Miss Spain emerging as the winner.

If Chelsea continues to perform well in this year's Miss Globe crown, she will have a chance to achieve a back-to-back win for the country, after Maureen Montagne's win last year. Chelsea would also become the third Filipina to bring home the Miss Globe crown after Maureen and Ann Colis, who first won the crown for the country back in 2015.

Aside from Chelsea, two other Binibining Pilipinas winners are also competing in international pageants.

Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano is currently in Egypt for the Miss Intercontinental pageant and is also seeking to secure back-to-back wins for the Philippines after Cinderella “Cindy” Faye Obeñita's win in 2021.

Meanwhile, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Roberta Tamondong is aiming to become the first Filipina to win the Miss Grand International crown. Samantha Bernardo was able to finish first runner-up a few years ago, while last year's Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, Samantha Panlilio did not make it into the top 20.

In November, Binibining Pilipinas second runner-up Herlene Budol will compete in the Miss Planet International pageant.
