Couple holds isaw wedding reception amid new normal

By Bianca Geli

While various weddings ceremonies are being postponed or wedding receptions being removed to practice social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this couple pulled off a unique wedding that both was so creative it went viral on social media.

Filmmaker Arjanmar Rebeta and his girlfriend-turned-wife Khaye Medina were determined to tie the knot in a church ceremony and hold a reception after to celebrate with their guests, but how does one do that under the new normal?

The newlyweds found the perfect solution in picking out UP Diliman's Parish of the Holy Sacrifice which has enough wide space for social distancing among guests. Their wedding was capped off in traditional UP-style with the trademark isaw and tokneneng street food served in their wedding banquet right in front of the parish.

According to a post shared by Mediarama Creatives, the whole ceremony cost around P10,000. Their reception idea occurred to the couple right after setting a schedule at the parish for their wedding. As they shared an isaw merienda outside the parish, Rebeta and Medina realized that the area is an open-air space and the food stalls outside the parish can make a perfect location for celebration. Most importantly, guests can be accommodated with social distancing.

"Doon ka sa taong papakasalan ka kahit tokneneng at isaw lang ang handa. Laging magkasama, hamon man o isaw ang ulam. Daig ng Pag-ibig ang Pandemic! Salamat sa Diyos sa mga biyaya. Siya ang nagplano ng kasal na ito sa pagtatahi-tahi mga pagkakataon," their Facebook post read.

Love truly wins and perseveres as seen in the simple wedding rites that defied all the odds.
