Ellen Adarna prefers live-in setup in relationships

With the latest news of Ellen Adarna and Derek Ramsay's engagement, the actress sat down with beauty queens Pia Wurtzbach, Bianca Guidotti and Carla Lizardo of the podcast series Between Us Queens to talk about how she views live-in relationships.

When asked about her thoughts on living in with a partner before marriage, Ellen said she believes that the arrangement isn't new to her.

Ellen revealed in the interview that when she was just 18 years old, she was kicked out of the house she lived in with her family. She had no other choice but to live on her own.

In fact, it was Ellen's father that encouraged the actress to “live-in” with her boyfriend at the time.

“My dad suggested na, 'Mag-live in na kayo, get to know your partner.”

“Yung talaga yung fear niya, yung magpakasal kami at a young age.

"So, he wanted us to get to know our partner and know what we want and don't want.”

She recalled that while her dad wasn't very conservative during her upbringing, it was her mom who initially had doubts about the very idea of her sharing the same home with someone.

Although she understands that her mother's instincts probably kicked in at the thought, her father was able to convince his wife to learn to “let go” so as their children can learn more about themselves.

Ellen then described how the set-up is actually perfect and admits that this allows the person to actually get to know their partner.

She later revealed that she has in fact lived under the same roof with all of her previous relationships and helped her get out of those that were toxic or just weren't for her.

After living in with a partner for some time, she said that certain personalities of the person get revealed thus allowing her to break it off as soon as she can.

“…I cannot see a future with this guy. So why would I waste my time?”

Finding "The One"

The actress elaborated in the interview that she did a lot of “inner work”, as well as learning how to “communicate in a healthier way”.

In her past relationships, Ellen recalled that she would find it difficult to open up and express herself. She would tend to keep it all in.

After taking some time for herself, she realized how wrong it was to hold herself back when it comes telling her partner how she feels.

She was able to change her attitude in expressing herself when she met Derek and upon entering a relationship with him. This allowed their relationship to go very smoothly.

Ellen and Derek announced their relationship in February 2021 and their engagement a month later.

They plan to become husband and wife this year.
