Cebu, Lapu-Lapu City in particular, will mark the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan this coming April.

Cebu, the “Queen City of the South,” also known to many as the “Oldest City in the Philippines” or the “First Capital of the Philippines” and the most telling, the “Cradle of Christianity in Asia.”

All that nicknames are well-deserved and encapsulate Cebu's importance in shaping Philippine history and culture as we know it today.

Cebu is in the spotlight again as the province and the entire country will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan on April 27 this year.

The historic event, also called The Battle of Mactan, took place on April 27, 1521, and saw the forces of native chieftain Lapulapu defeating the Spanish army under Portuguese voyager, Ferdinand Magellan, who perished in the battle.

The defeat stalled Spain's occupation of the Philippines by 44 years until the arrival of Miguel López de Legazpi in 1564.

It is only fitting then that Biyahe ni Drew rediscovers the province of Cebu to mark this significant milestone.

Of course, Lapu-Lapu City is on top of the agenda for today's episode and Drew Arellano will embark on a virtual tour to give us a glimpse of the town several weeks before the celebration.

Drew will also visit neighboring towns to see the various attractions they have to offer for visiting tourists.

If you're crazy about guitars, then check out Alegre, which is known for producing quality but affordable acoustic guitars great for amateur and professional musicians.

Our favorite Biyahero will also visit artist Ian Sarra to know more about his cool hobby of upcycling junk items and turning them into amazing pieces of furniture and display items.

Of course, what's a Cebu adventure without tasting the province's famous lechon delicacy?
