By Racquel Quieta

We live in such an uncertain time, but that doesn't mean there are no pleasant surprises that await. Take for example the opening of Super Nintendo World at the Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan.

The much-awaited opening of Super Nintendo World has been delayed for eight months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was originally slated to open last summer before the Summer Olympics in Tokyo and was also postponed for the second time when it's grand opening was rescheduled to February of this year.

But fortunately, on March 18, the Super Nintendo World finally opened its doors to visitors who are eager to have some fun and a bit of normalcy in their lives.

And although guests can have as much fun as they want, everyone needs to be as careful as possible since we're still navigating through a pandemic.

The theme park has safety protocols in place such as compulsory wearing of face masks, temperature checks, readily available hand sanitizer, social distancing measures, and signs asking riders to refrain from shrieking.

Things to see and do at Super Nintendo World

1. Mario Kart race
You now have the chance to race around a Mario Kart circuit. Using an augmented reality (AR) headset, guests can see projections of other character and collect virtual coins during the five-minute race.

2. Yoshi-themed ride
Go on a treasure hunting adventure and search for Captain Toad while aboard the Yoshi-themed ride.

3. Punch “?” blocks and collect coins virtually
Using a Power-Up Band, you can now punch “?” blocks and collect virtual coins. It's the closest you can get to recreating the Super Mario game. Truly a dream come true for Super Mario fans.

4. Super Mario-themed snacks
Went you finally feel hungry after a day of activities at Super Nintendo World, you can munch on Super Mario-themed snacks, such as the tiramisu question blocks, mushroom-flavored popcorn, and koopa shell-shaped calzones. Some of the food spots in the theme park are Kinopio's Café, Pit Stop Popcorn, and Yoshi's Snack Island.

Looks so much fun, right? Don't fret if you're not in Japan right now and can't visit the park yet. You can definitely add it to your post-pandemic travel bucket list.
