La Union reopens to local tourists

By Racquel Quieta

Tourism is slowly gaining momentum once again as local government units (LGUs) such as La Union reopen for local tourists.

On May 22, the local government of La Union resumed all tourism activities to help its local tourism industry recover from the hard blow it suffered due to the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.

But of course, certain guidelines need to be followed to prevent another surge in COVID-19 cases to occur.

So, limitations will be imposed in terms of the demographics and number of visitors allowed to enter the province per day, and where they can book their stay or day tour.

Other strict protocols will also be implemented such as submission of a negative RT-PCR test.

So, if you want to know if you can head to La Union soon, below are the new normal travel guidelines you should know about.

Is leisure travel already allowed?

According to the Department of Tourism (DOT) advisory No. 5 S. 2021, leisure travel to and from NCR Plus is not allowed, except for Point-to-Point (P2P) air travel to accommodation establishments that have been granted a Certificate of Authority to Operate for Point-to-Point Air Leisure Travel (CAO P2P).

This will be effective until May 31, 2021, or until NCR and NCR Plus (Cavite, Laguna, Rizal) areas are under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions.

Who are allowed to go to La Union?

The Executive Order No. 27 issued by Governor Emmanuel Ortega III says only 700 registered tourists from Luzon will be allowed to enter La Union per day.

Plus, only tourists aged 15 to 65 will be permitted to travel to La Union.

What are the travel requirements?

Tourists are required to have negative RT-PCR test results within 72 hours prior to their arrival in La union.

Test results from saliva-based RT-PCR test issued by the Philippine Red Cross within the 72-hour period will also be honored.

Moreover, tourists will only be allowed to book their stays and/or day tours through accredited travel operators.

Plus, tourists should also apply for travel requests through the La Union LGU's visitor information and tourist assistance website.
