Actress Alice Dixson has met many farmers through her various travels throughout the Philippines.

She has visited their farms which grow flowers, herbs, vegetables, fruits, sugarcane, nuts, and raise livestock or insects.

Learning about planting and growing things to be self-sustaining inspired her to try to revitalize her own family's farm in Quezon.

"Pagkatapos mag-asawa ang mga magulang ko, I was conceived, born and then raised on their farm. Yes, our farm in Quezon. Kaya importante para sa akin to go back to my roots to see how to revitalize our land, ang lupain namin na punong puno ng coconuts," Alice shares.

One of the first things she did was to visit their municipal office to have the soil in her land analyzed.

"Ang first and pinaka importanteng step para sa outdoor planting, and so you can properly choose kung ano 'yung tama at ano 'yung [plants that] would best grow sa inyong lupa, ay soil analysis," she explains.

The municipal office will then send experts to analyze the characteristics of the soil and will recommend the type of fertilizer to use depending on the crop you plan to grow.

They will also give advice on how to put the fertilizer as well as the amount needed.

Alice also gave her viewers a peek of the seed nursery in her farm.

This is the place where seedlings are nurtured before they are replanted.

"Ang requirement ng seed at seedling ay water, oxygen, light and proper temperature to germinate and grow," she shares.

She also revealed that she is trying to grow lettuce, oranges, calamansi and a few other vegetables and herbs in the farm.
