Efi Baldwin warned ADMU about Coach Tab

Efi Baldwin says she raised concerns about Coach Tab Baldwin to Ateneo years ago.

Efi Baldwin, a woman who identified herself as the estranged wife of Ateneo men's basketball head coach Tab Baldwin, has publicly claimed that she previously warned university officials about her concerns regarding her husband.

In a video posted through social media on June 13, Efi said she had repeatedly urged Ateneo to distance Coach Tab from the campus environment, alleging that the school failed to act on her warnings. The statement surfaced days after the deaths of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, a tragedy that put the school's basketball program into sharper focus.

According to Efi, she informed university officials years ago that they should remove Coach Tab from his position and take steps to ensure the safety of their students.

“At the time, I repeatedly told the Ateneo University that children are not safe around him and it was their duty to remove him," she said.

She further alleged that her concerns were met with efforts to silence and intimidate her rather than investigate the issues she raised.

“I urged them to move him away from the campus, the university campus, and they proceeded to launch a campaign of intimidation and silencing," she said.

Efi, who married Coach Tab in 2011 and has been separated from him since 2020, also addressed the families of Rene and Divine in the video. She criticized Coach Tab's recent public apology and expressed sympathy for the grieving parents, arguing that the circumstances leading to the deaths should have been prevented.

"The deaths of your kids were not only predictable but preventable. The bodies of your kids are still warm and he's talking about moving on," she said.

The discussion gained additional traction when Efi's daughter, Giota, shared the video on social media. In her post, Giota alleged that Ateneo team manager Epok Quimpo had dismissed their family's warnings about Coach Tab in the past. She claimed that both she and her mother had repeatedly raised concerns about Coach Tab's presence around students but were not taken seriously.

"My mom BEGGED them to assign him into a different team- a team with adults, away from the university, away from minors and they not only ignored her but made her life living hell for months," Giota said in her tweet.

As of writing, neither Coach Tab nor Ateneo de Manila University has publicly responded to the latest allegations.
