David Licauco

Being part Chinese, who are known as good businessmen, David Licauco shares how friends and family inspired him to venture into it.

Kapuso star and Pambansang Ginoo David Licauco may have several successful businesses already, but he admits that it wasn't always easy and that he had to work hard on his own.

He shared in his interview on Karen Davila's vlog that it was his friends and family that pushed him into starting his own business.

“I grew up in a Chinese high school and as we know, 'yung mga Chinese, into business talaga and I also realized na showbiz is not forever,” he said.

He added, “I just like creating things, and I like solving problems kaya siguro 'yung business, sobrang challenging siya for me, but I love challenges kasi.”

David's most famous business venture is his Kuya Korea restaurant, offering Samgyeopsal or Korean barbecue, in a bowl. However, he mentioned that his first business was actually a boxing gym.

“Yung sa boxing gym, umutang ako sa dad ko. Di naman ganun kalaki kasi I raised my own money rin, siguro mga P600,000,” he said.

Aside from that, he also has Sobra comfort food, which started out as an online business and is now a cafe. His Korean-inspired resto is a business that he started from scratch.

He then recalled how he got the idea, “This started nung I went to Cash & Carry to buy supplements and then may nakita akong Samgyeop in a bowl and naisip ko na 'Uy, parang ok yun, a?' kasi parang wala pa masyadong ganun.”

According to the actor, the dishes they offer are comfort food which includes Samgyeop in a bowl, Korean fried chicken, noodles, milk tea, and bingsu, a milk-based shaved iced dessert topped with sweet toppings.

David said that while they've only started the business in 2022, they are already working to have it franchised.

“Starting in two months, magpapa-franchise na kami, and marami nang inquiries,” he said.
