Former It's Showtime host Eric “Eruption” Tai poured his heart out on social media as he recalled his journey 10 years ago, which he described as the year that “almost broke” him.
Eric took to Facebook and shared some throwback photos in 2016 and admitted that it was a challenging year in terms of his showbiz career.
Eruption wrote, “2016 almost broke us, but it really built us.”
He then mentioned the moment he had to say goodbye to the Kapamilya noontime show.
“I got fired from Showtime right after New Years day with no backup plan. No clarity. Just with a mindset that there's a purpose in all things.”
Life really became more challenging that year, when he suffered an injury in his right hand playing for the Philippine National Rugby team, Volcanoes.
“Then came another twist, I was recruited to play American football for the Philippine national team… which we did end up winning vs Korea but during this game, I broke my right hand and underwent surgery and was out for months. Talk about a quick lesson in humility.
“However in the middle of uncertainty, we made the most important decision of our lives. Rona and I were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manila Philippines Temple. Before careers, before comfort, before knowing what was next, we chose God and we chose each other… After all our best efforts we will always try to have our Heavenly Father at the center of everything we did. Against all odds, we didn't just survive, we became finalists. Not because we were both beasts at the game, but because God carried us every step of the way other.”

Despite the challenges he and his wife Rona Samson encountered, Eric stressed that their faith carried them throughout and even they had a hard time conceiving. A few years later, they received their greatest blessing, when they welcomed their son Legend in May 2019.
“So even though 2016 started rough, getting fired from Showtime and breaking my hand, God proved He is the ultimate Master Planner. We really wanted to win Amazing Race Asia, but fell just short in the finale and didn't earn the prize money we hoped would help us have a baby with IVF. But we all know what happened 3 years later, God blessed us with baby Legend! Showing us it's never in our timing, only His. Trust Him, stay humble, get knocked down but get back up and let God guide you!”
Eric also reminded everyone who will read his post that “everything happens for a reason.”
“Kaya, thank you Showtime & Volcanoes & remember, everything happens for a reason whether good or bad! Just keep the Faith & keep trudging!” he ended his post.
