Golden Globe Awards winner Awkwafina poured her heart out in a recent Instagram post as she talked about the devastation brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is considered a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Awkwafina, who won last January for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy/Musical for the film "The Farewell" at the Golden Globe Awards, expressed her sadness over the global health crisis.

She wrote, "Have been away working for the past few months in all of this devastation, and wanted to make double sure I was OK to travel before coming back home to the US.

"Haven't said much about this whole thing because mostly I am just saddened by it. I worry for those who are most at risk for serious illness, the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions."

The actress added, "I am saddened by the rhetoric that has come out of this, and the cruelty that came as a result. "

Since she is returning to the United States after working abroad, Awkwafina stressed that she will follow the strict home quarantine procedures set by the authorities.

"I hope that while we self isolate and socially distance to stay safe, we also stay sane and calm. Wishing everyone a sense of peace during this batshit crazy time - I will be locking myself up for the next 2 weeks rewatching the Tiger King. Love you all ️️️"

Awkwafina, or Nora Lum in real life, became hugely popular in the hit movie 'Crazy Rich Asians,' where she played Peik Lin.

Meanwhile in the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) has reported 552 cases of patients infected with COVID-19.
