WATCH: David Licauco shares Chinese New Year's traditions he follows

Kapuso heartthrob David Licauco and his family are just one of the thousands who celebrated the Chinese New Year last Saturday, January 25.

In a recent interview, David, who is born Filipino-Chinese, shared that their family always observes the occasion traditionally - from home decorations to temple visitations to seek guidance for the upcoming year.

According to David, Chinese traditions are somehow similar to that of Filipinos.

“Usually sa bahay, mayroon kaming mga lanterns, 'yung red lanterns. And then, mayroon ding mga 12 fruits. Tapos usually, tsine-check naming 'yung lucky colors na suotin sa day na 'yon,” he shared.

David also related that one of his favorite Lunar Year practices is the exchanging of Angpao or red envelopes between family members and relatives as well as having the first meal of the new year with his whole family.

“Later on, pupunta kami sa dinner, Chinese restaurant. We call it Panto. 'Yung parang isa-isang sine-serve 'yung food. Pero lahat ng food do'n, may meaning,” he added.

Moreover, David shared that these traditions, that were passed from generation to generation, are important to him and he will likewise pass on to his future family.

“As a Filipino-Chinese guy, siyempre gusto ko siyang i-continue kahit 'pag mayroon na akong sariling pamilya,” he said.
