GMA Artist Center kicks off an exclusive masterclass series on acting featuring international workshop facilitators Anthony Bova and Ana Feleo, and seasoned director LA Madridejos for its growing roster of talents.

As part of its commitment to invest in its home-grown talents, GMA Artist Center has kickstarted a virtual masterclass series to elevate the quality of acting and professionalism of its talents.

For its first event on Sept. 30, the talent management arm of the Kapuso Network brought together international workshop facilitators Anthony Vincent Bova and Ana Feleo, and seasoned director LA Madridejos for a virtual roundtable discussion on how to become better actors in this day and age.

More than 50 Artist Center talents attended the virtual event, where the three high-caliber acting mentors shared some real-world insights and practical tips for leveling up and overcoming the common challenges that actors deal with in the time of a pandemic.

Kapuso artists Andrea Torres, Cassy Legaspi, and Luis Hontiveros also joined in the discussion and openly shared what it was like to be under the guidance of Anthony and Ana.

Over 50 talents from GMA Artist Center took part in the roundtable discussion, where they asked questions and shared their own experiences.

New York-based Anthony, who serves as the creative director of the acting curriculum, said in his interview with GMANetwork.com that this initiative was meant to help artists discover or rediscover their love for creating and collaborating with the creative people behind the camera.

"For the actors, and the community at large at GMA, to fall more in love with the craft, with art, with working together, with collaborating with writers and directors," he answered when asked about the reason for holding the discussion.

"I ended the session earlier with, 'Don't stop asking questions.' Out of all the people we had today, if a few people have become less shy and started asking questions about their art, then that's a great beginning."

Ana, who serves as the program facilitator and mentor based in New York, echoed the same sentiments.

"What we want is for all the actors here in GMA to feel that they belong to a group of people, actors who are passionate about their work, who value their craft and the process.

"It's very difficult to have a platform or a community where you can really ask these valid, practical questions about their work, and the things that are getting in the way of their work."

With this project, Ana is optimistic that young artists today would feel more encouraged to take ownership of their craft and their acting careers. She hopes that artists will be more proactive in improving the quality of work that they put out.

"We want them to feel safe and encouraged and inspired to do really good work. It says a lot when you're in that kind of environment tapos nagbu-bloom ang artista. We want to harness that more in Artist Center.

"We want to strengthen the culture of the actor being responsible for his work. GMA is investing the utmost international standards of education in terms of the craft. We want din them [artists] to take pride in the education here in GMA."

The roundtable discussion is just the first of many virtual events that GMA Artist Center is mounting in the coming months. More seasoned actors and industry experts, including GMA News personalities, will join in the next sessions.
