It looks like there is going to be another Filipina on the Miss Universe stage as a former Mutya ng Pilipinas is set to represent the United States in the upcoming pageant.
In one of the more recent posts on the Miss USA Instagram account, the organization announced the “celebratory coronation” of Miss Hawaii USA Savannah Gankiewicz as the new Miss USA. Savannah, who finished first runner-up in last year's Miss USA pageant, is taking over for Noelia Voigt, who resigned last week, May 6, citing her mental health.
Savannah also competed in the 2017 Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant, where she was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Filipino Communities.
In a post on Savannah's personal Instagram account, the beauty queen explained that taking over for Noelia was a decision that she did not make lightly and that she admired the strength it took for Noelia to “step down and prioritize her mental health.” She also wished the departing beauty queen “all the best” in their next chapter.
While Savannah prepares for the Miss Universe 2024 pageant to be held in Mexico in September, the country is set to crown its 2024 representative this coming May 22 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Already, frontrunners are emerging as the pageant has been announcing the top finalists in the pageant's multiple challenges.
Last week, Miss Hawaii Patricia Bianca Tapia, Miss Iloilo Alexie Brooks, Miss Quirino Stephanie Faye Gerona, Miss Quezon Province Ahtisa Manalo, and Miss Taguig Christi Lynn McGarry were named the top five finalists of the personality interview challenge.
Miss Hawaii Patricia Bianca Tapia, Miss Iloilo Alexie Brooks, and Miss Quezon Province Ahtisa Manalo were also part of the top five of the swimsuit presentation challenge, with Miss Cavite Dia Maté, and Miss Southern California Jet Hammond making up the rest.
