SUGA of the Korean supergroup BTS has been announced as an ambassador of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The multi-hyphenated artist is a known fan of the sport.

The NBA shared the news on Thursday through a short video of SUGA published on their social media pages.

“I am proud to announce that I've become an NBA Ambassador. It is personally a great honor as I have loved basketball since I was young,” the global star said in the video.

The association in a release said the rapper-producer's duties as their ambassador includes engaging NBA fans globally.

NBA added that SUGA will “participate in several league initiatives… including attending NBA games and events in the U.S. and Asia, and participating in the league's promotional activities.”

“Music and basketball have been shared passions of mine since my youth, and it's a dream to be named an NBA Ambassador,” SUGA was quoted as saying in the statement.

In September last year, SUGA met Stephen Curry in Japan when the Golden State Warriors played against the Washington Wizards for the NBA Japan Games 2022.

SUGA was also spotted at the game between Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers last January.

“We look forward to working with SUGA to bring the same excitement he engenders from his global fanbase in support of our continued efforts to grow our brand,” NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum said.

SUGA also expanded his influence in the fashion scene after recently being appointed as Valentino's Brand Ambassador.

Meanwhile, SUGA will be releasing his first solo album, D-Day, on April 21, with his pre-release track with IU dropping on Friday, April 7.
