SB19 unveils 1Z Entertainment's plans for the future

By Jashley Ann Cruz

World-renowned P-pop boy group SB19 recently made their highly-anticipated comeback with the release of their newest EP PAGTATAG! According to the group's bunso and creative director Justin, the newly released mini album cements SB19's overall identity as a P-pop boy band.

PAGTATAG! comes after their first EP Pagsibol and is the second part of their trilogy. It includes their hit track “GENTO” which was pre-released last May and “I WANT YOU,” a soulful R&B piece written and produced by famous Filipino producer and artist August Rigo who was also behind K-pop songs such as SEVENTEEN's “HOT,” SHINee's Key's “Eighteen (End Of My World),” and many more.

The new EP also includes songs “CRIMZONE” which encapsulates SB19's insignia hard-hitting sounds; “ILAW” and “LIHAM,” two new profound ballads; and “FREEDOM,” a carefree celebration anthem for SB19's new chapter as a group.

PAGTATAG! symbolizes SB19's growth in the industry as they finally take charge and bask in the freedom they've been waiting to achieve. SB19 is now officially a self-managed group under their company 1Z Entertainment.

During the media launch of their new EP last June 9, 2023, SB19 admitted that they've also dreamed of building their own company ever since the start. Josh shared, “It all started with a crazy idea na during trainee days nagbibiruan kami na we wanted to make our own company, our own pacing, our own management, handpickpeople na pinagkakatiwalaan namin.”

Now that they've achieved the dream, they are not only reveling in their freedom but they also have a mission to further improve the growth of the entire P-pop or OPM industry. Josh explained, “Since we are now in charge, ito pong 1Z we built it not just for SB19 but for the whole P-pop or OPM industry kasi we wanted to challenge the industry and the market and alam namin maraming talented Filipinos.”

“In the future, we wanted to hone talents as well and of course ipagpatuloy 'yung mga nangyayari sa atin ngayon. Nakuha na natin 'yung momentum, we just have to work harder para makamit natin 'yung end game na tinatawag natin which is syempre the growth of OPM and hopefully in the future help the Philippine economy,” he further says.

With a future plan to manage other groups and Filipino artists, SB19 is on the trajectory of achieving their goal. Stell echoed Josh's sentiments and said, “In the future, we might have our own artists na rin. Sabi nga ni Pablo may mga minamata na kami na 'ito parang puwede 'tong maging part ng 1Z family in the future,' and 'pag nagkataon yung mga natutunan namin sa career namin pwede naming iimpart sakanila kung paano maging performer at confident sa sarili nila.”

“Actually ngayon nga lang kami medyo happy talaga kasi before mabuo yung PAGTATAG! and yung 1Z, sobrang dami naming pinagdaanan na challenges. Yung SB19 mismo na name alam n'yo 'yan, sobrang laking problem niyan talaga, pero right now sobrang happy namin talaga. Kahit hindi pa namin naaabot yung pinakarurok na tagumpay na naiisip namin, ngayon pa lang, masasabi namin na happy and successful po kami talaga,” he further explains.

SB19 remains humble and down to earth despite the number of achievements they've garnered for the past few years since their debut in 2018. They do not solely want to be known globally but they want the entire Filipino artist community with them as they further reach greater heights.

Congratulations, SB19!
