August Rigo talks about working on SEVENTEEN's 'HOT'

By Jashley Ann Cruz

In case you didn't know, Filipino-Canadian songwriter and producer August Rigo is one of the writers and composers of K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN's hit song “HOT” and alongside him are Thai writer and producer PRONG (Ploypaworawan Praison), BUMZU, and SEVENTEEN's very own vocal boss Woozi.

Even before it was released, “HOT” was already receiving a lot of attention from fans and fellow artists because of the names attached to the song. Being one of those included, August revealed a few details about the collaboration that made the track truly iconic and worth the listen.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, he shared, “There were a lot of writers on "HOT." There's like a few sections of it that I wrote. We submitted a version of the song, me and another writer of mine whose name is PRONG. She's Thai, an amazing writer, and producer as well in her own right.”

“They like the couple of the lines that we sent in and BUMZU, who's their main producer, he hit me up and I've known BUMZU for a while, we did some writing back when I was in Korea. So he asked me if they could use a few of the parts in the song and I said, “Sure, take whatever you like,” because I think they were just looking for some operative pieces,” he further shared.

“One of the main lines from the PRONG version is the “Juicy Juicy.” They definitely took that from our version which apparently is kind of a call to arms in their concert now,” Rigo explains.

Although he wasn't able to work with SEVENTEEN hand in hand, Rigo worked with the group's main producer BUMZU. He shares, “BUMZU, he's an amazing talent. I think he had a hand in putting together the group (SEVENTEEN). And anytime I work with BUMZU it's been amazing and he's also a great singer as well so we had a relationship. We really were just talking on Instagram like, “Hey I love this part, can we use this?” and I said “Sure, go ahead.”

“A lot of the stuff that happens now when I'm writing as long as we have a good relationship and everybody is on the up and up, it's very easy to do things remotely with just a couple of messages. With an 'Oh yeah, these are the parts I like. Can you send me this?' and then it's done,” he further shares.

Well, now we know where The8 got his famous “Juicy, Juicy” line, and apparently, there's some Filipino and Thai pride attached to it. Well, it's a good day for Filo and Thai Carats out there!

SEVENTEEN is currently on their “Be The Sun” world tour and will be dropping by the Philippines this October 8 and 9.
