Kapuso Diva and former The Clash finalist Jeniffer Maravilla performed "Aabutin," one of the most loved tracks off GMA's most kilig series, The Lost Recipe, on Spotlight Music Sessions.
"Aabutin" is a song about reaching your dreams and not letting go of them even though faced with hardships and challenges. Just as the song depicts, Jeniffer fought for her dream to become a professional singer until she finally made it to The Clash.
In an interview with GMANetwork.com, Jeniffer revealed that after joining countless singing contests since she was a teen, her The Clash stint was supposed to be her last hurrah.
“Honestly, 'yung The Clash actually 'yung parang sabi ko sa sarili ko, 'Last try ko na 'to.' Sabi ko, 'pag hindi pa siguro ako nakuha dito, parang I think magtatry na'ko ng ibang path,” she said.
Even though she had her late start on joining singing competitions, Jeniffer said that what started out as a hobby for her eventually became her passion. After realizing she had the talent, she considered making it as her career.
While the first genre she presented when joining the competition was pop, she's now trying out something different.
“I think meron siyang in relation to sa mga folk na sounds since medyo ethnic. Ngayon medyo na-e-enjoy ko gumawa ng ganun. Hindi lang din ako sure talaga if ito na 'yung path na gusto ko puntahan pero happy lang din ako na nabibigyan ako ng opportunity to somehow do it,” she said.
She added that one of her reasons for singing and making music “is because gusto ko lang din magpromote ng sariling atin.”
“So ngayon,'di pa 'ko sure kung 'yun ang path na gusto ko puntahan, but happy ako na ngayon nakakagawa ako ng mga ganung klaseng genre."
With being recognized as one of the best Kapuso singers today, what else does Jeniffer dream of achieving? Her answer, “ang goal ko siguro sa ngayon is magkaroon muna tayo, hopefully, ng award, kung mabibigyan tayo ng pagkakataon.”
“Either sa genre na ginagawa natin or pagrecognize sa talent natin. Siguro isa 'yun sa mga way na mapush pa 'ko talaga lalo at mainspire talaga sa'kin na kumbaga pagbuithin ko pa lalo sa ginagawa ko,” she said.
However, she also said that she's already happy and thankful for the opportunities given to her, and for being able to do the things that she has never done before.
