This year, the Miss World Philippines pageant gets more competitive as beautiful Filipinas from different walks of life vie for the crown. One of them is a TV host, a sister of a famous celebrity and a deaf-mute.

Hosts Mikael Daez and Gwendoline Ruais introduced the contestants one by one. All dazzled in their official red swimwear.

Among the contestants were Eat Bulaga co-host Valerie Weigmann, Geneva Cruz’s sister, Eliza Johanna Cruz, deaf-mute Christine Balaguer and GMA Artist Center talent, Nicole Donesa.

Valerie told Lhar Santiago of 24 Oras, “It’s such an amazing experience for me. Siyempre, to raise awareness also of my advocacy.”

Eliza shared, “Kaya ko ipakita sa family ko na uy, marunong rin naman akong kumanta pala. I’m representing the Cruzes.”

According to Miss World Philippines organizer, Cory Quirino, just like the Miss World pageant, the Miss World Philippines pageant will have a sports competition.

“Gusto namin ma-revive at ibalik ang mga traditional Filipino games,” she said.
This Saturday, the candidates will be visiting Caramoan Island, where the swimsuit competition of the pageant will take place.

The grand coronation night of Miss World Philippines 2014 will be held in Mall of Asia Arena on October 12 and will air exclusively on GMA Network.
