Filipino pageant fans who are looking for a behind-the-scenes peek at what goes on during the Miss Universe Philippines pageant need to keep their eyes glued on Netflix as a documentary on last year's pageant is set to make its debut there.
During a press conference at the premiere of their documentary, A Queen's Runway, filmmakers Erik Sopracasa and Tom Sys teased that their project would be making its debut on the streaming giant “this year.”
“There are still some things that we have to finalize but we are allowed to say that it will be very shortly. You will see some stuff coming out soon,” he shared. “What I'd like to say to the global audience is looking through the Philippines through the eyes of Miss Universe. A global audience will also have the idea of the culture and what it is like in the Philippines.”
Erik and Tom are the men behind MOVART Studios, a creative agency and film studio recognized at the Brussels Capital Film Festival and Rome Prisma Film Awards, to name a few. This past weekend, the pair and the Miss Universe Philippines organization arranged a red carpet premiere for the film, which was attended by current reigning Miss Universe Asia Chelsea Manalo.

According to Miss Universe Philippines executive vice president Voltaire Tayag, the organization was actually grateful for the interest from the two filmmakers, pointing out that no Filipino filmmaker has previously expressed interest in documenting the pageant's proceedings.
“That's something that we're so thankful for because with so many people in the Philippines, somebody should have done this. You would imagine by now that a Filipino filmmaker would have documented one of the pageants in the Philippines. We're so thrilled that it took foreigners to document something that Filipinos love so dearly,” he shared.
For their part, Erik and Tom say that experiencing the whirlwind four months of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant was something that they would not soon forget.
“For me it was one of the best experiences that I've had in my whole life, I think. I didn't know what to expect because I haven't followed Miss Universe Philippines so closely,” Erik recalled. “I arrived here and immediately the delegates and the whole team had an amazing impact on us as well because they welcomed us on day one with open arms.”
“The trust that the organization gave, the trust that the delegates have given us, it's something that has really transformed me as a person as well. I've never been to the Philippines but it was clear to me early on that people are giving you their trust,” added Tom.
