From taking minor roles to big roles, Ken Chan has proved that he is a capable actor.
At 18 years old, the Kapuso star made his onscreen debut when he became a part of the 2011 Kapuso dance drama series 'Time of My Life.'
Ken then consistently starred in GMA programs including hit teen drama 'Tween Hearts,' and the primetime series 'Biritera,' 'Rhodora X,' and 'The Rich Man's Daughter.'
After playing minor roles on TV, he bagged the titular role in 'Destiny Rose' where he played a transgender woman in 2015, four years after his showbiz baptism of fire. Ken has also starred in another hit Kapuso program--a primetime series--titled 'Meant To Be,' playing Yuan Lee, one of the love interests of Billie, portrayed by Barbie Forteza.
He rose to fame in 2018 when he played Boyet, a man with a mild mental intellectual disability, in the high-rated GMA afternoon series 'My Special Tatay.'
In the series, Ken was paired with Rita Daniela, who played Aubrey, a prostitute. Their team-up was highly regarded for delivering one-of-a-kind on-screen chemistry. An unexpected love team was born from the pairing.
Ken and Rita starred in their second project as a love team in 'One Of The Baes' which aired from 2019 to 2020.
Since then, Ken has also worked with different leading ladies in different projects in TV and movies. Here's a rundown of Ken's most memorable characters on television:
'My Special Tatay' is Ken Chan's most remarkable project so far. The series became the talk of the town because of its unconventional story which involves Boyet (Ken Chan), a man with mild intellectual disability, who impregnated Aubrey (Rita Daniela), a prostitute. Ken was originally paired with Arra San Agustin but, as the story went on, the viewers saw the chemistry between Ken and Rita. True enough, their unexpected love team is regarded as one of the most successful team ups of today.
Besides the successful debut pairing of Ken and Rita, what made 'My Special Tatay' a smash hit was because of how Ken delivered his role as a teenager who has autism. He studied the neurodevelopmental disorder with a psychiatrist to appropriately depict the character.
Ken was given the biggest break of his career when he took on the title role in 'Destiny Rose.' The series follows Joey Flores Vergara, a woman trapped in a man's body. All his life, he only dreamed and hoped to be the best for his parents. Despite the fact that everyone around him is against his personal desires and wishes, he remained to be a loving and obedient child.
Ken's portrayal in 'Destiny Rose' did not come easy as he had gone through heavy makeup, applied fake nails, and wore a wig to really look a girl. According to his 'Destiny Rose' co-star Katrina Halili, Ken had to wear a waist trainer to accentuate his curves.
Different from his role in 'Destiny Rose,' Ken was very masculine in 'Meant To Be.' Here, he is one of the love interests of Billie, played by Barbie Forteza. Ken is Yuan Lee, the FIlipino-Chinese guy who competes against three guys Ethan Spencer-Hughes (Ivan Dorschner), Addy Raj (Jai Patel), and Macoy Dela Cruz (Jak Roberto) for Billie's attention.
Through 'Meant To Be,' Ken proved that he can move anyone with his performance, regardless if it's a complex or simple role.
If Ken made you cry in the afternoon, he brought humor in the GMA primetime series 'One of the Baes,' his and Rita's second project after the successful 'My Special Tatay.'
In 'One of the Baes,' Ken plays Grant, a hopeless romantic and fairy tale believer who is looking for his "the one." Watching the feel-good series is a perfect way to end the day, thanks to its ensemble cast including veteran actors Roderick Paulate, Amy Austria, Melanie Marquez, Tonton Gutierrez, and Jestoni Alarcon who sent viewers to fits of laughter.
Ken's upcoming GMA afternoon series, 'Ang Dalawang Ikaw,' has yet to start but as early as now, viewers can't contain their excitement because of the teasers released by program showing his romantic scenes with Rita who will play Mia, his wife in the new soap opera. In one instance, fans of RitKen believe that they are a real-life couple because of how natural they look on-screen.
Besides the love-dovey scenes, another thing that the viewers must look forward to in 'Ang Dalawang Ikaw' is Ken's portrayal of Nelson, a graphic designer diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder--a mental illness where the patient develops multiple personalities. Because of this, Mia will have a competitor in Nelson's heart because of his alter personality--Tyler.
Ken plays the geeky boss in 'Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss' opposite Bianca Umali.
Ken and Bianca are paired for the first and they are getting along really well.
Ken was also part of the Cinemalaya 2014 film entry '1st Ko Si 3rd' or 'Third Is My First' where he played the role of young Third. Part of the cast members are Nova Villa, Freddie Webb, Dante Rivero, RJ Agustin, Coleen Perez, and Denise Barabacena, and is directed by Real Florido.
After working together in 'Walang Tulugan,' Ken and Sanya Lopez were paired for 'GMA Regal Studio Presents: That Thin Line Between.'
Ken and Sanya showed their closeness on the set of 'GMA Regal Studio Presents: That Thin Line Between.' Ken played the role of Julius while Sanya portrayed the role of Gemma Rose.
In 'Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss,' Ken showed that he is a versatile actor when he played the role of Richard Lim.
According to Ken, he can relate to this role as he is also a businessman. Ken owns a Christmas-themed restaurant called Cafe Claus, as well as gasoline stations.
The RitKen love team was paired once again and this time they made a movie titled 'Huling Ulan sa Tag-araw.'
Ken played the role of Louise who is a seminarian looking for a sign. The movie is an official entry to the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Once again, Ken became part of a project under Regal Entertainment. This time, it's for 'Regal Studio Presents: Your House, My Home.'
Ken was reunited with his good friend Rita Daniela in 'Regal Studio Presents: Your House, My Home' when he played the role of Jarvis.
Another achievement for Ken is producing the movie 'Papa Mascot' and playing the titular role.
The movie will be shown this April 2023 and tells the story of a father's (Ken) love and his struggles.
