With the album about to released within the month, Aicelle is out to prove that she has not been forgotten
All good things come to those who wait. And in the case of Aicelle Santos, her first album benefits from the long period of time it took to plan and complete it. And with the album about to released within the month, Aicelle is out to prove that she has not been forgotten, but nurtured by time. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Together with GMA Records, the talented singer meticulously planned the release that would reintroduce Aicelle to the listening public: an album that’s simply titled Make Me Believe. “Actually, this was planned November last year,” Aicelle explains happily, continuing that the album was originally set to be released during the second quarter of 2007. “Kaso talagang naghanap kami ng maigi ng magagandang materials. Luckily, and thank God, talagang nakakuha kami ng mga magagandang songs for the album.” A mix of blues, jazz, popular Pinoy ballads and more, Aicelle describes her album as a genre-bending mix that would hopefully appeal to many viewers. Her carrier single “Ikaw Pa Rin”, a ballad infused with an alternative feel, is now enjoying a lot of airplays in Philippine radio stations. Written by Janno Gibbs, Aicelle feels that it’s a good song to introduce herself to the people who don’t know her. “Hindi ko alam kung (para) kanino sinulat ni Kuya Janno, pero magandang-maganda ‘yung song.” stars“There are 11 cuts, tapos three of those, covers sila,” Aicelle tells of the about-to-be-released record. “All The Man That I Need” which was already included in the second Pinoy Pop Superstar compilation album will once again make an appearance in her new album. “Tapos, I did “A House Is Not A Home”, it’s a classic. And there’s a Tracy Chapman song, it’s a blues song: “Give Me One Reason”, kasi favorite ko ‘yun.” Aicelle also shares that she wrote two songs for the album: a Tagalong ballad and an upbeat English song that she is very proud of. “Kasi nga, mostly ngayon kapag original ‘yung songs, puro ballad. So favorite ko ‘yung upbeat na song kasi it’s different. (And) Medyo nahirapan akong gawin ‘yun, pero ang galing. Siyempre thank you sa mga arrangers na bumuhay (sa) mga kanta (ko).” Aicelle includes this song, entitled “All Gone”, and another song written by her friend entitled “Lullabyes” among others, as the cuts that could introduce her to a larger listening audience. GMA Records is set to release the album by the second week of October and Aicelle is already excited to start promoting her record. “There will be mall tours, definitely. Pero wala pa akong line-up nung dates.” While waiting for the album’s release, talk about Aicelle and her upcoming album at the iGMA forums. You can also catch her performances at SOP every Sunday!
