It was heartbreaking and shocking news for Filipino fans to learn that OPM icon Hajji Alejandro has recently passed away at the age of 70.

In an official statement posted by his manager GR Rodis, the late singer's family announced, “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Son, Angelito 'Hajji' T. Alejandro.”

Joining in the nation's mourning, Hajji's partner and former singer Alynna Velasquez, also confirmed the news through a heartfelt tribute online.

Alynna shared her deep grief by recalling the precious memories they shared during Hajji's final days.

"We spent the last 8 days of your life together. I am grateful to your kids Ali and Rachel for reaching out to me. I have been waiting. I think of you every hour of every day," Alynna wrote.

She also reflected on Hajji's courageous battle against stage four metastatic colon cancer.

"You refused another trip to the hospital and chose palliative care instead, in the comforts of your home, in the company of people you love. You knew you were leaving us soon," she shared.

"We listened to our favorite songs and we both had tears in our eyes. Your precious voice has been impaired because CA had constricted your respiratory system as well. But I felt your love even without words. And despite the pain, restlessness and hallucinations, you tried to hold my hand."

She tenderly remembered assuring Hajji that it was okay to let go and rest in the arms of the Heavenly Father. Alynna revealed that the late singer accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior before his final breath.

"Love ko... you tried to hold on...you know it is our special day today. But your human body gave up on you. Thank you... thank you for your love," she said.

Hajji passed away on April 22, the same date as their 27th anniversary. In her final message to him, Alynna greeted her beloved and concluded with "See you in God's time. I love you eternally."

Fans quickly filled the comment section with messages of love and condolences. Celebrities such as Sheree Bautista and Jean Kiley also offered their heartfelt support to Alynna.

Hajji Alejandro, famously known as the “Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala” during the '70s and '80s, was one of the pillars of the OPM industry. He is best remembered for his timeless hits like "Tag-Araw, Tag-Ulan" and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” which won him the grand prize at the 1978 Metropop Music Festival.

Just a month before his passing, Alynna confirmed that the OPM icon has been battling stage four colon cancer and experienced seizure due to infection.

"It was just an ordinary day na he had a show...Sa Vigan kasama 'yung Hitmakers. Parang na-bloat siya and he could not breathe, he could not eat, he could not do anything. So sinabi ko pa-check up siya. So, when he had a CT scan nalaman na.... He heard it from the doctor and he said that he needed to have an operation, like, ASAP," Alynna recalled.

Celebrities, fans, and the entire Filipino music community continue to mourn the loss of another irreplaceable OPM legend.
