"I would rather address the focus to what can we do to get the children out of those circumstances that they may be pressured in that way to do something."

Catriona Gray

That's the answer of reigning Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray when asked about her opinion on the issue surrounding the bill that aims to lower the age for criminal liability.

In case you didn't know, she is referring to the controversial bill aims to lower the minimum age of criminal liability from 15 to nine years old. Kids who commit such heinous crimes as murder, parricide, infanticide, serious illegal detention, carnapping, and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, would be subjected to "mandatory confinement" and undergo rehabilitation at Bahay Pag-asa.

During her homecoming press conference at the Novotel Manila in the Araneta Center, Chika Minute anchor Iya Villana-Arellano had a chance to interview Catriona one-on-one.

"I would rather that the efforts be refocus to why those children maybe committing those crimes cause working with kids, you know, that when they are that young, when they are 11, 10, nine years old, they're not developed in that way cognitively to make decisions, knowing full way the consequences," she said.

She is also doing what she said, seeing the silver lining in the rising number of cases of HIV in the Philippines.

"The rising number of cases is alarming but in a way, it's showing that we are one making testing more accessible to people and more people know their status, therefore they can take steps into how to adequately deal with their situation and look after themselves."

Catriona will have a homecoming parade tomorrow, February 21, from Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila to Ayala Avenue in Makati City.
