Derek Ramsay officially starts his journey as a Kapuso today, April 3, after he inked his contract with GMA Network.

The Fil-British hottie rose to popularity via his stint as an MTV VJ in 2005. But he got his first stint on TV in a segment called "Pool Watch" in the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga.

He went on to do several successful teleseryes and movies, making him one of the sought after leading men in showbiz.

In 2017, Derek even bagged the Best Actor Award in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in the movie All of You, which he top-billed with Kapuso Ultimate star Jennylyn Mercado.

Three years prior to this, Derek and Jennylyn worked together in the romantic-comedy movie English Only, Please, which was also an MMFF entry.

In his sit-down interview with GMANetwork.com last March 29, Derek revealed that he solicited advice from friends and colleagues to learn more about the working environment in GMA-7.

And they always have the same answer: "Yes, and lahat parehong sinasabi sobrang mababait ang mga tao dun.

“And sobrang madaling katrabaho and that's the regular thing I hear from everybody that I've ask."

The new Kapuso leading man also revealed that his family played an important part in this career decision.

"Kasi in showbiz, napansin mo every decision you make, it extends to your family. Like, if I do a teleserye, it extends to your family in a sense na you won't have time for them."

"So for me, I always consult and see how they feel about it and they are very, very supportive."

Before signing with GMA-7, Derek admitted that he was already contemplating about slowing down in showbiz and pursuing a career in golf.

However, his parents, Derek Ramsay Sr. and Remedios 'Medy' Baggao-Ramsay, were all-out in their support of him becoming a Kapuso.

"After the meetings, after nakausap ko na 'yung mga bosses, my dad and my mom was like, 'You know, Derek should do this.'

"Kasi ako, parang I think it's time for me to hang-up everything and then go for my dream of becoming a pro golfer.

“I think that's what I want to do, maybe a movie here and there."

He added, "Pero I really want to try to becoming a pro golfer.

“But after sitting down with family I was so shocked kasi I thought they would be so happy because they could get to see more of me."

"So they were very, very pushy na gawin ko 'to and now that I've made the decision they are very, very happy."
