GMA programs, personalities recognized by various award-giving bodies

GMA Network added more awards to its growing list of honors as it recently received accolades from Gawad Midya 2019, Yaehademic Awards, and Best Choice Achievement Awards 2019.

At this year's Gawad Midya, GMA News Pillar Mel Tiangco was conferred the “Outstanding Lasallian Media Practitioner for Public Service” by the De La Salle University's Student Media Office. Tiangco co-anchors the Network's flagship newscast "24 Oras" and hosts the award-winning drama anthology "Magpakailanman". She is also the founder and ambassador of GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Atom Araullo, on the other hand, won as "Outstanding Media Personality". Araullo anchors GMA Network's digital newscast "Stand for Truth" and hosts the award-winning documentary program "The Atom Araullo Specials". He is also one of the hosts of the longest-running docu program "I-Witness". Gawad Midya recognizes outstanding media practitioners who serve as role models to DLSU student media practitioners and align with the University's Vision-Mission.

At the Yaehademic Awards of the The Lovelife Project for Health and Environment, Inc. held last August 23, Araullo was also named as the “Exemplar Innovative Digital Influencer / Digital Show” awardee for his commendable performance and courage as a news anchor who presents various scams and ploys on digital media to educate and protect the viewers.

Senior News reporter Marisol Abdurahman, meanwhile, was hailed as the “Exemplar Digital Content Reporter/Host” for her stories on crimes captured by digital cameras, highlighting the importance of using technology in avoiding, as well as reporting crimes and catching perpetrators.

“Biyahe ni Drew” host Drew Arellano was also recognized as the “Exemplar Digital Influencer/Content Sports (Sports and Adventure Blog)” for his stories and presentations about Filipino culture and tourism spots, enabling others to appreciate and take interest in the country's natural resources through digital content.

The LoveLife Project for Health and Environment Inc., is a non-profit independent media organization composed of multi-media professionals and whose members and leaders are persons with lived experiences, LGBTQAI+, former children in conflict with the law, persons living with HIV, persons with disability and out of school youth. Their mission is to use their expertise to help schools and communities in their information, communication, and technology education of their students and constituents to be mindful of their use of technology.

Meanwhile, Kapuso actors were also recognized at the Best Choice Achievement Awards 2019 last September 14. Bubble Gang mainstay and The Gift actor Betong Sumaya received his first-ever award as the “Best Performer in the Field of Comedy and Arts”. His The Gift co-star, Mikee Quintos, was named as this year's “Best New Female Concert Performer” while The Clash alumnus Anthony Rosaldo won as the “Best New Male Concert Performer”.
