Cat Arambulo-Antonio earns netizens' ire for her comments on commuters during community quarantine

By Maine Aquino

Socialite and social media influencer Cat Arambulo-Antonio received negative comments after posting on her Instagram Stories her reaction to Pinoy commuters who can't stay at home during the enhanced community quarantine.

In her Instagram Story, a clearly irked Cat could be heard mouthing harsh words while watching the video clips of the commuters who got stranded and apprehended at city checkpoints.

The enhanced community quarantine, which has been implemented just this week, aims to stem the spread of COVID-19 by limiting the movement of the people coming in and out of Metro Manila.

Some netizens were quick to capture the video before Cat was able to delete it.

"God why don't you motherf*ckers stay at home? Stay at home! Don't you guys get it? Tigas ng ulo!"

She added, "This is exactly why they needed the military because you f*ckers won't stay at home. Guys, come on?"

After receiving a barrage of negative feedback, Cat quickly uploaded an apology video and a text.

In Cat's apology post she said, "Hi everyone, I would like to apologize for the harsh words I've used in my IG story at a very sensitive time like this.

"It's just so frustrating to see that some people who have the option to stay at home are still not following the govt's efforts. Hope that we can all help in any way that we can- especially to our frontliners who are working to keep us safe. Again, I'm sorry for how it sounded like but do know I only have the best intentions- our collective safety and that this will end soon. Namaste. - Cat."

In another video post, Cat issued another apology.

"I'm really really sorry to have to take it out on social media. But that outburst was a reflection of how I really about people not listening to the government. At this point in time, honestly, people should really lock down and contain the virus."

"She added, I'm not saying and referring to the frontliners out there that really need to get to work. But what I'm saying is the people that are pasaway and not following."

"I mean honestly, everyone's affected right now. The only way we could contain this is by staying home. It's so sad because we don't have enough hospital beds. We don't have enough frontliners out there to actually help everyone else out there that are in need. Our hospitals can collapse."

She clarified in the video, "The real purpose of that message was directed to people who aren't listening. So please, I sincerely apologize if people we're affected... Right now, it's really a state of panic for everyone."

But for some netizens, her reply was a non-apology apology.

Spark It! Marketing Communications, a 360 Marketing Communications & Influencer Management agency also reposted Cat's apology.

They also added this text in their post, "We apologize for the harsh words that were spoken in the previous IG story of @catarambulo. Rest assured, she is in no way undermining the efforts of our fellow Filipinos who are just trying to earn and make a living for their families.

"Together with Cat, we are very sorry and we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We wish you all safety in these trying times."
