Toei to release part of decades-long collection online for free and with subtitles

By Marah Ruiz

Toei Company, the Japanese production and distribution company behind iconic franchises such as Voltes V and the Super Sentai series, will be releasing parts of their expansive collection online from free and with subtitles this April.

The videos will be available on Toei Tokusatsu World Official, a brand new YouTube channel which they will launch on April 2, 2020.

A total of 70 shows from its catalog from the '60s to the '90s will be accessible to viewers all over the world.

The first two episodes of all 70 shows will be released on April 2 with English subtitles. The rest of the episodes will be uploaded following a regular schedule.

"At launch, we will have the first two episodes of all 70 shows available with English subtitles! Further episodes will be available in Japanese for now, but there could be frequent updates. We plan on making a public call for subtitles in any language," the statement of Toei's website reads.

The first batch of releases will include well-loved anime Combattler V and popular live action-series Gorenger--with both shows' episodes being regularly updated every Sunday.

A partial list of the releases also includes Voltes V, Daimos and the Space Sheriff series.

Many live-action and animation series from Toei have had success in the Philippines.

Shaider, the third installment of the Space Sheriff series, even had a remake called Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan starring Dennis Trillo back in 2007.

Meanwhile, mecha anime Voltes V is set to have a live-action remake which will be directed by Encantadia's Mark Reyes.
