By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Syrian YouTuber and influencer Basel Manadil (known popularly as The Hungry Syrian Wanderer) has always shown his passion and love for the Philippines which is evident in his many social media posts in the archipelago.

Thus, he was dubbed by many as the “adopted son of the Philippines” and he even caught the attention of Megastar Sharon Cuneta.

In one of her posts, the singer thanked the Syrian native for helping the Filipino people during the coronavirus pandemic.

She wrote on Instagram, “I've made friends with a few other YouTubers. Some are here, some non-Pinoy. You must visit and watch the vlogs of my new “adopted son,” Basel of @thehungrysyrianwanderer.

“He is from Syria and has lived in Manila for around seven years now. You will be touched by his heart to help his 'kababayans' in his adopted country.”

Sharon even reiterated that Filipinos should try stepping up in their relief efforts because Basel, despite being a foreigner, has been doing it for quite some time now.

“Mapapahiya ka kung Pilipino ka at wala ka man lang natutulungan kahit isang tao. Siya pang foreigner ang tulong ng tulong. We have been in touch for about a month now.

“He has an IG acct too but please watch his YouTube vlogs. Good job, son! God will bless you more and more. You have a beautiful heart. Thank you for loving all of us Filipinos! Lots of love, Inay.”

It seems the post also caught Basel's attention because in the comments section he replied, “Thank you, Inay. I will join your vlog soon.”

A delighted Sharon even replied, “Oh that's great! It would be a big help to my YouTube channel too cos you're so sikat na! Naks! Thanks so much, anak! Keep up the good work.”
