"Our job is to sift out the fakes from the real talents, the personalities from the genuine stars," says Direk Floy.
After four seasons of "StarStruck," not including the kids edition, Floy Quintos has seen the artista search grow and mature. Sa pagdating ng bagong batch of celebrity hopefuls, he tells us na mas mahirap na ang trabaho ng Council members ngayon. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos courtesy of GMA Network.
Honored ang feeling ni Floy Quintos nang malaman niyang kasama siya sa
StarStruck Council ng fifth season ng reality artista search ng GMA. "Sporadically, I've been appearing [sa show]," kuwento niya sa iGMA. "So siyempre now that they need a full commitment, well, nakaka-tense. But it's an honor. It's a great honor to do this."
But what makes Direk Floy a perfect fit for
StarStruck V?

He shares with us, "My history talaga is as a teacher and as a director so I know how to work with young people. I know how to bring out the best in young people." And bilang member ng Council of Three, the director will definitely have a hand in molding this new batch of
StarStruck hopefuls.
On his part naman daw, he just expects a lot of honesty and hard work. "I'm not the type naman who'll put down somebody for the heck of it. It's honesty and hard work--that's what matters."
In previous seasons, Direk Floy has played the part of an expert. Whether in acting or personality development, hindi na bago sa kanya ang mentoring sa show. But unlike before, this batch will have the mentors staying with them throughout the whole competition and this will spell the difference para sa batch na ito. "Siyempre, mas mabibigyan 'yung mga bata ng pagkakataon na mabihasa," he says.
Direk Floy recalls that in previous seasons, the experts would only have a day to teach them a facet of showbiz life. "And you know, you see a person once, you listen to him for two hours, three hours, end of story. Finished. Pero kung nandoon sila, mababantayan ka talaga. It really becomes a teaching process. Nababantayan ka talaga doon. It's like the difference of going to a lecture or attending a class."
Dagdag pa niya, for sure, "it'll keep everyone on their toes."
And definitely the
StarStruck Council will be on their toes when it comes to this batch of
StarStruck survivors.
Real talent vs. attitude
"Today's generation is very smart. In
StarStruck I, what did the kids learn? Immediately, alam na ng batch 2 yan, immediately, alam na ng batch 3 yan. So there's a danger that in this batch they're all super ready for the close-ups, and they know what to do, and they know how to answer questions, and they're smug and they're smart. Baka there are no more real people. You know what I mean?"
He continues, "It's really the question of image--how they present themselves sa public. Since kids nga are getting more street smart, alam nila what the public wants."
This is why it will be a challenge for the Council to find out kung sino sa mga survivors ang talagang may talent at sino ang dinadaan lang ang lahat sa attitude. "Our job is to sift out the fakes from the real talents, the personalities from the genuine stars because all of these kids are already personalities, 'di ba? They come in feeling
feeling! Baka ma-feeling lang. It's hard to find the real talents, the real stars, 'yung enduring personality, kumbaga."
