'Slumdog Millionaire' and 'Life of Pi' actor Irrfan Khan dies at 53

Indian film star Irrfan Khan who rose to fame by featuring in several films like “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Life of Pi,” and “The Namesake” died today, April 29.

He was only 53.

Prior to his death, he had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital on Tuesday with colon infection.

In 2018, he revealed that he has been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor but recovered after undergoing treatment in London.

Irrfan Khan was regarded as one of the first Indian actors to make a consistent mark in Western Cinema after the likes of other Indian stars like Saeed Jaffrey, Roshan Seth, and Om Puri.

He is survived by his wife, Sutapada Sikdar, and sons Babil and Ayan.
