Frankie Pangilinan, unfazed by criticisms: 'I'm not sorry for standing up for myself.'

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

After the much talked about #HijaAko movement and parents Sharon Cuneta and Kiko Pangilinan defending her, Frankie Pangilinan once again shared her thoughts on Twitter after the week-long debate on sexual assault on social media.

The 19-year-old first apologized for the negativity the discussion brought about in her fans' timelines but said she remains firm with her stand,

“I'm really sorry for the unnecessarily loud negativity today but I'm not sorry for standing up for myself.

“I truly hope this situation helped more than it did harm. I love you [fans] always.”

She followed up the tweet by mentioning that she wishes more people could empower victims to speak up just as how much support she's received from a negative comment.

“It just sucks so bad to think about how many ACTUAL victims (not just of threats, etc.) can't even begin to fight for their own justice… and here I am receiving one vile tweet and some people are enraged on my behalf.

“Can we please unleash the same fire for everyone?”

In the comments, Frankie received praise for standing up to the victims by relaying how selfless and empathetic she's been for the past few days.

One commenter wrote, “I used to be silent, thinking justice will come soon but I was wrong. The day of reckoning is earned through concerted effort and I hope I'm not too late in realizing this.”

Another penned, “I agree. But, I can't imagine how hard it is for victims to come forward in the first place, when this victim-blaming and rape joke culture still exists. Thank you for fighting, you started a conversation that was long overdue.”

Sharon Cuneta vs Sonny Alcos

In recent news, Sharon Cuneta has already expressed her intent to file a criminal case against a man named “Sonny Alcos” who reportedly said he would find Frankie and rape her.

According to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra, Sharon has already identified the person before filing a complaint.

Adding, “It appears that Sharon, through her own efforts, has identified the person, including his location and the name and address of his employer.

“If she files a criminal complaint with the DOJ, we will verify the respondent's identity and address for the purpose of giving him notice.”

Sonny Alcos, whose real name is Sonny Co according to reports, is a warehouseman in Swiss International Airlines.

The singer and actress also posted the report on her Instagram account.

In the comments section, one netizen replied, “Shawie, your husband apparently sponsored a law? Which decriminalize rape if committed at a young age. That was the point. Kaya may 'kung' sa statements niya. Kaloka ang retaliation. Nakakalula ang powertrip.”

Sharon, defending her husband, said, “The law, in general, doesn't state that minors shall not receive punishment for a crime. Rather, as minors they should go through due process na akma sa edad nila at makukulong pa rin sila kung serious offense. BUT --- ihihiwalay sa hardnened criminals na maaring silang mga minor naman ang abusuhin.

“Tila mali ang interpretasyon ng nakararami sa law ni Kiko.

“Plus, going back to the issue at hand, matanda na ang nagpost ng rape message na 'yan about Frankie.”
