Red Velvet's Irene and Seulgi stun in 'Monster' music video

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

ReVeluvs, the music video you've been waiting for is finally here!

On Tuesday, July 7, Red Velvet members Irene and Seulgi finally dropped the music video for their latest album “Monster.”

The new song is a pop dance featuring conceptual lyrics conveying the story of an “immortal monster” that creeps into people's dreams to play, dance, and seduce them.

The song displays Irene and Seulgi's powerful vocals that are complemented by a combination of low bass and dubstep sounds.

Aside from the music video, their latest mini-album (released yesterday) showed colorful themes of the duo from the sweet and fanciful “Diamond” to the groovy track of “Feel Good” and “Jelly.”

ReVeluvs also enjoyed the bonus track “Uncover” and the b-side track “Naughty,” which is reported to be promoted right after the title song of the album.

The 1st sub-unit of Red Velvet
During the media conference of “Monster,” Irene and Seulgi confessed feeling both excited and nervous about becoming the first sub-unit of Red Velvet since their debut in 2014.

Irene said, “I'm excited and nervous about how people will respond to us doing something new. We worked so hard to prepare so we hope we get a lot of love from the fans.”

Seulgi added, “We do feel a bit of pressure as we're the first sub-unit of Red Velvet, but Irene and I have great chemistry since we've been together for such a long time so I feel very confident.

“I think people will be able to see a cooler and more intense side of us than what we've shown 'til now.

“For Red Velvet, we can be sweet or smooth, but I think we've gone for a more intense concept this time. I think our charm is our ability to put on a unique performance that showcases our chemistry as a unit.”

The duo then spoke about their aspirations for the mini-album and how it will be received by the fans.

Irene said, “ReVeluvs have given us so much support and said we're so cool in the teasers. They'd watch our performances and ask us to teach them so they could follow along. Their support has been such a source of strength for us.

“So now, my goal is to be able to complete our promotions well. Both of us have learned so much through this process, so we want to do well, and we hope to experience growth through these activities.”

Seulgi mentioned, “We plan to showcase a variety of content as we're emphasizing the performance aspect, so I hope people will enjoy it and think, 'I didn't know Irene and Seulgi could do this!'”

“Monster” is available now in all digital streaming sites.
