Fighting the prevalence of fake news thru GMA News TV strip 'New Normal: The Survival Guide'

By Aedrianne Acar

Internationally-acclaimed news channel GMA News TV assembled the best and brightest news personalities and experts to be the hosts of three brand new programs that will be part of the primetime strip, New Normal: The Survival Guide, coming soon this month.

Leading these new programs are Kapuso expert Professor Winnie Monsod, George Foster Peabody awardee Kara David, and seasoned TV and radio anchor Susan Enriquez.

These three amazing women were interviewed by the members of the press this Thursday morning, July 9, through a video conference.

During the conference, they discussed what the viewers should expect in their shows as they help them traverse this new normal brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Winnie Monsod's News Makers

Every Monday, you can catch Mareng Winnie Monsod on the primetime line-up of GMA News TV in her show News Makers.

During her video conference with the press, Prof. Winnie stressed the importance of giving our Kapuso the right and factual information amid this pandemic and that is what they will strive to give viewers through her program.

She explained, “In the new normal, it is even more important that we have the proper information, not false information, but information, which is based on data and fact.”

“And that's why I am trying to do in this show. We talk to experts of the once who knows the subject better and hindi sila nanlilinlang.

“I want them to tell it straight.”

Kara David's Bright Side

Meanwhile, multi-awarded news personality Kara David will be sharing positive vibes in her show Bright Side which will air on Tuesdays. She will feature inspiring people and their stories to remind us that there is a “silver lining” in this pandemic.

Kara shared their objective of giving hope in her new program.

“'Yung show ko comes after Tita Winnie's show Tuesdays 'yung show namin. It's called Bright Side, kasi alam naman natin ngayong may pandemic, ang taas ng anxiety level ng mga tao.”

“Alam natin na maraming problema, pero that doesn't mean na walang silver lining in all of this, so 'yung show namin looks at the inspiring stories behind this pandemic.

“So marami kaming mga istorya na nagbabayanihan, mga taong nagse-share ng kanilang blessings. May mga stories kami about frontliners na nagsa-sacrifice ng kanilang life and energy para lang makapaglingkod.”

Susan Enriquez's Pera Paraan

If you are struggling with your finances in the new normal, then the Wednesday night offering of New Normal: The Survival Guide featuring TV-radio anchor Susan Enriquez, will give you the knowledge you need to generate extra income amid this pandemic.

What are the other things in store for the viewers who will watch Pera Paraan?

Susan said, “Well siyempre 'yung title pa lang alam na, pera!

“So usaping pera itong pag-uusapan dito sa ating programa, every Wednesday naman ito. For the pilot episode, alam naman natin na during this pandemic talagang isa sa naging challenges sa atin kung papaano natin ima-manage 'yung pera na hawak natin, because marami sa atin nasa bahay.

“May mga nawalan ng trabaho or kung mayrun man temporarily nag-stop, so wala silang means of livelihood, wala silang pagkukunan ng kabuhayan.

“Dito magbibigay kami ng tips and ideas kung papaano ba magkakaroon tayo ng kita sa paraan na hindi tayo mapapahamak or tatamaan nitong COVID-19 virus.”

With the prevalence of negative news, many of our kababayans are opting now not to watch news programs to ease their anxieties from the current situation.

The hosts were asked about it and shared their thoughts about those people deciding to skip the news.

Highly-acclaimed economist Winnie Monsod stressed the importance of getting factual information during this health crisis.

Monsod told the press, “You have to watch the news, you have to be informed because how are you going to make decisions if you don't have the correct information. I think that's why they put me on Monday, you try to give as much information as they can and with that information you are not trying to convince them to do something.

“You are just giving them enough information, so they can make a rational decision.”

Kara added that there is nothing wrong with being informed.

“Walang masama sa pagiging informed. Sa panahon ngayon mas kailangan mo mas maging informed, mas nakakatakot if you don't know anything, kasi hindi naman nawawala 'yung problema kapag hindi mo siya alam e.”

The Kapuso anchor also pointed out that watching news helps to drown out the fake information spreading online.

Don't miss these exciting and trailblazing programs, which will be part of the New Normal: The Survival Guide strip on primetime soon on GMA News TV.
