If you want to watch an informative show that will discuss the biggest news and issues in the country today, then look no further because Professor Winnie Monsod is the expert you are looking for with her new show on GMA News TV, News Makers.

The weekly Monday evening program is part of the New Normal: The Survival Guide strip, which will be launched this month.

The highly-acclaimed public affairs host and economist was interviewed by the members of the press, yesterday morning, July 9, via a video conference, to talk about this exciting new program.

One of the questions asked is the challenges she encountered in mounting this program amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kapuso expert was all smiles when she said that the best thing about this show is that she didn't have to wear makeup.

She quips, “I actually love.. hindi na mini-makeup, you know hair and all. It is so lovely, I just put powder.”

Turning more serious, the Kapuso host stressed that manpower is a problem since they have to keep the number of people to the bare minimum to comply with social distancing measures.

Mrs. Monsod explained, “What can you do? The one thing that is problematic to us is that here I am. I'm the host, so I'm zooming and then we have the producer and the director.

“You know this producer and director, they have to hold their own stuff, they have to takeout their own equipment. They bring in their stuff, naawa ako sa kanila because there are only two of them.

“Sabi ko puwede ba make it three na so that somebody can help you, because in the normal course of events there is 20 of you in the room and now all of a sudden you are three.”

The press also wanted to find out how a senior citizen like Mareng Winnie adjusted to the new technology required for her program News Makers like using a video conference app for the interview portion.

Professor Monsod simply answered, “You know I am old, but I am not that old,” which elicited laughter to everyone who was part of the video conference.

She went on to say that it was not hard for her to adapt to this technology since she has been using Zoom a lot lately.

“I have been zooming for our anniversary, zoom for this birthday, zoom for that birthday. Namatay 'yung isa, zoom naman, zoom-zoom.

“So I am very familiar with Zoom and I think it's fantastic! I mean here you are and you're in all different parts of the world and you're watching each other on the same day at the same time.”

Mareng Winnie added that this is the sort of the 'silver lining' brought about by the pandemic.

“This is the good part, the plus side of the new normal [brought about by COVID]. I didn't realize it's gonna happen.

“Can you imagine you are watching the Pope [Pope Francis] when he is saying mass, the same time he is saying mass. Wow! Talagang more than this I cannot ask for.”
