Nar Cabico vows to be 'the most hardworking Filipino artist'

By Marah Ruiz

Actor and musician Nar Cabico has embraced the life of a full-time artist.

The Austin-based performer is currently working on a short film with award-wining director Carlos Siguion-Reyna.

Nar described the project as a "short film musical tribute" which is being made in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Tanghalang Pilipino.

He reiterated his commitment to the arts in a recent Instagram post.

"I'm no longer interested in becoming famous. I just wanna be the hardest working Filipino Artist I can be, until my last day on earth," he wrote.

He shared that he is constantly trying to find out what more he can do with his talent.

"Our National Artist for dance, Miss Alice Reyes, texted me once and said: 'You are a living example of a true Filipino Talent.' I still didn't know what that meant. Now, I'm excited to find out," he continues.

Nar also draws inspiration from the words of singer-songwriter Joey Ayala.

"Tulad nga ng sinabi/inawit ng commencement speaker namin nung High-school na si ginoong Joey Ayala: Kung Kaya mong isipin / Kaya mong gawin / Isa-isang hakbang lang at ika'y makakarating / Tulad ng punong nanggaling sa binhi / Ang mga dakilang gawa'y nagmumula sa guni-guni," he add.

Nar left his budding television career in the Philippines to migrate to the United States where his husband VJ Capule is based.

He is now part of a band which tours all over the US for gigs.
