What inspires Myrtle Sarrosa's songwriting?

By Bong Godinez

New Kapuso star Myrtle Sarrosa is so identified as a cosplayer and game streaming superstar that the public often forgets how accomplished she is as a singer-songwriter.

Myrtle has two albums under her credentials: a self-titled record released in 2013 and the Gold-certified Now Playing: Myrtle.

She is also credited for writing songs for other artists including Jennylyn Mercado and Maja Salvador.

Now, Myrtle is set to remind everyone of her versatility as an artist and entertainer through a virtual concert titled, MYRTLE: Still Love Me, happening on November 28.

The concert will see Myrtle perform a combination of cover tunes and original songs, including materials that she herself wrote over the years.

“Nung nagsimula kasi akong magsulat ng songs that was back 2016 and 'yong time na 'yon parang ang dami kong pinagdadaanan sa buhay and ang dami kong nahuhugot na inspirations from my personal experiences, pati mga experiences ng mga kaibigan ko,” she told GMANetwork.com during a recent Kapuso Brigade ZOOMustahan session.

“Like 'yong isang song na sinulat ko, [it] was called 'Heartbroken' tapos tungkol siya sa friend ko, actually co-writer ko, and siya 'yong nag-arrange ng music.

So, sinulat namin siya kasi 'yong fiancé niya passed away a few days before their supposed wedding,” Myrtle sadly narrated.

“'Yong mga inspirations ko for the songs is storytelling nung mga nangyari sa 'yo and nangyari sa ibang tao na nakaka-relate yong ibang tao.”

Myrtle picked “Tadhana” and “Nasaan Ka Na” as among her personal favorites from among those that she penned.

“'Yong 'Tadhana' kasi medyo soft rap na song tapos tungkol naman siya sa destiny. Kahit gusto n'yo pilitin na kayo magkatuluyan pero ayaw talaga ng tadhana,” she shared.

“Tapos 'yong 'Nasaan Ka Na' alam mo that love exists somewhere in this world pero hindi mo alam kung saan 'yong soulmate mo, kung nasa ibang bansa ba siya nasa ibang mundo.

“Kasi minsan you're trying to look for love pero hindi mo alam kung saan 'yong love. So hinihintay mo na lang kung kalian siya darating.”

What can the audience expect for her upcoming solo concert?

“Magpeperform ako ng mga songs na sikat ngayon especially during our lockdown,” smiled Myrtle

“Gusto ko lang talaga magbigay saya sa mga taong manunood and 'yong buong theme ng concert na ito is to give fun and entertainment to everyone.”

Don't miss “MYRTLE: Still Love Me” on November 28, 8:00 P.M. Tickets are available online via Ticket2Me.net.
