Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos react to assumptions about millennials 'In Real Life'

By Bianca Geli

In the pilot episode of In Real Life, Gabbi Garcia and guest Khalil Ramos talked about the different misconceptions about young people nowadays, specifically the gen z's and millennials. Gen z's are defined as people born between the years 1997 to 2015 while millennials are born between 1981 and 1996.

One common assumption about young people is that they tend to job-hob or change work frequently.

Khalil explained, "Naging ganun lang 'yung kaugalian because of tons of opportunities. Because everything is almost digital, sobrang dami mong puwedeng mapuntahan. It's a good thing, and it's something you need to balance--working towards your dream."

Gabbi agreed and added, "Millennials or gen z's were just really brave and willing to take the risk. It has pros and cons but I think mostly pros because you'll never know if you don't try."

The second misconception is that millennials and gen z's complain a lot and rant on social media too much.

Gabbi disagreed and said, "I think you can't single out gen z's and millennials about ranting, siguro it's more of being woke on social media."

"Millennials and gen z's are more aware of what's happening around us because of social media. It's easy to get access to what's happening all over the world. Kaya mas maraming opinion na nasasabi, social media is a gift and we should treat it as a gift, it's not a weapon to hurt people." she added.

Similarly, Khalil commented, "I think kasi we have more open platforms to speak about our opinions kaya na-a-amplify. Our parents, marami rin silang gustong sabihin wala lang silang platform."

Another common preconceived notion for millennials and gen z's is that they feel entitled to things they did not earn.

Khalil admitted, "To some degree, I know some people that kind of embody someone entitled. They feel entitled to a better job or more money. There's a difference between knowing your worth and being entitled. Fighting for your worth, it comes with values. Kung alam mong tama naman, may ilulugar naman.

He said, "Nowadays, humility is a superpower."

Gabbi shared how grateful she is to her loved ones for keeping her feet on the ground. "I'm thankful for my family, they keep me grounded."
