Janno Gibbs reminisces on his participation in the GMA adaptation of Lupin

By Bong Godinez

The Netflix comedy-crime and mystery series, Lupin, has everyone talking, praising the show for its fast-paced and suspense-filled storytelling.

French actor-comedian, Omar Sy, top-bills the program lifted from the novels written by Maurice Leblanc about a fictional French gentleman thief named, Arsène Lupin.

The first novel came out in 1905.

A manga series emerged in 1965 inspired by Maurice's character and created by Japanese artist Kazuhiko Katō under the pen name, Monkey Punch.

Lupin thus far has impressed viewers enough for it to debut in the top ten list of Netflix's most-watched series, particularly in the US and France, where it landed on the top spot.

The feat made Lupin the first French series to debut on the platform's top list.

That some viewers are touting it as one of the “early frontrunners for the best shows of 2021” says a lot about the show's appeal and impact.

LOCAL VERSION

Meanwhile, singer-actor Janno Gibbs couldn't help but feel nostalgic after hearing all the buzz surrounding the new Netflix show.

To put things into context, Janno was part of the local adaptation of Lupin produced and aired via GMA-7 way back in 2007.

“Since #1 sa Netflix ang 'Lupin' (french series) Nauna kami!!” he wrote lightheartedly on Instagram.

He then tagged actor Richard Gutierrez, who portrayed the lead role of André Lupin in the series, which made its debut on April 9, 2007.

Janno portrayed the role of Inspector Clavio, which he said is one of his favorite roles.

He also wrote and sang the series' theme song, making the show all the more memorable.

Lupin, the Pinoy version, also featured Katrina Halili, Rhian Ramos, Ehra Madrigal, Ara Mina, Boy 2 Quizon, Tirso Cruz III, Ricky Davao, and LJ Reyes.

Directing the primetime series were Mike Tuviera and Lore Reyes.

Lupin concluded its run on the Kapuso network on August 17, 2007.
