Royce Cabrera admits fear of getting stereotyped

By Aaron Brennt Eusebio

Kapuso actor Royce Cabrera admitted with select members of the GMA press that he feared being stereotyped into certain roles, especially the ones where he portrayed characters that are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Royce rose to popularity when he starred in the 2019 Cinemalaya movie 'F#*@bois,' alongside Kokoy de Santos and Ricky Davao. In 2020, he starred in the boys' love series 'Quaranthings' with vlogger Kyo Quijano. This year, Royce will be part of Regal Entertainment's movie, 'BxJ Forever.'

Royce has starred in different movies and series in the past few years. Currently, he has an online show airing on iFlix with Polo Laurel, Arielle Roces, and Jem Macatuno titled 'Section St. Valentine: The Disappearance of Divine.

Royce will also star in the third story of GMA Public Affairs' fantasy rom-com series My Fantastic Pag-ibig with Ella Cristofani, and in the TV adaptation of the '80s classic film, Nagbabagang Luha.

Needless to say, Royce has given life to other characters. But Royce admits that his knowledge about the LGBTQIA+ community widened as he continues to portray roles that are members of the community.

He said, "Inaamin ko talaga, noon kulang 'yung kaalaman ko about LGBT community so hindi ko alam kung paano ko ba iintindihin 'yung bawat kulay ng payong na yon."

LGBTQIA+ is an umbrella term that includes people who do not conform with the two genders including lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, queers, intersex, and many more.
