Actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin apologizes after a senior citizen collapses and dies while in line at her community pantry in Quezon City.
Rolando dela Cruz, 67, was in line at the community pantry set up in Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City before he collapsed and was taken to East Avenue Medical Center earlier this morning.
He was declared dead on arrival at 9a.m.
The actress said on Thursday she was setting up a community pantry on her birthday in order to address the needs of those within her area who have been strongly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on their livelihood.
“I ask for forgiveness from the family”, she issued on her Facebook page in Filipino.
“I visited the family earlier in the hospital to personally talk to his children.
“I will forever ask for their forgiveness.”
She also added that she will now prioritize helping the Dela Cruz's family and claims it her responsibility to get them through this difficult time.
The actress also hopes that this will not affect the other community pantries who have been doing well and good for her fellow Filipinos.
Over the years, Locsin has been heavily involved in humanitarian causes especially those who have been affected by natural disasters. Often coming to their aid almost immediately after devastation strikes.
When the pandemic struck the country last year, she also proved her natural resolve when she came up with various fundraisers and donation drives to aid those suffering due to COVID-19's impact on the economy and to address the needs of the public health crisis.
In 2019, the actress was also hailed as one of Forbes Asia's 'Heroes of Philanthropy', a prestigious list that enumerates individuals who are “committed to solving some of the most pressing issues facing the Asia-Pacific."
