Comedian-TV host Shalala passes away

Comedian and TV host Shalala has passed away on Wednesday morning, June 23.

The former Kapuso TV host's death was confirmed by Shalala's brother, Anthony Reyes, to singer and TV host John Nite.

On his Facebook post, John Nite said that Shalala, or Carmelito Reyes in real life, died at 7:30 a.m. due to cardiac arrest.

In an article published by PEP.ph, it was reported that Shalala died of pulmonary tuberculosis and his brother said that Shalala was confined at the National Kidney Institute the other week.

The 61-year-old TV personality reportedly went home after being confined and was believed to be on his road to recovery.

However, on June 22, Tuesday, Shalala was rushed to the Fe del Mundo Medical Center, where he was revived but, unfortunately, passed away the next day.

Shalala first got his big break in showbiz when he became a co-host of German Moreno, more popularly known as Kuya Germs, in the longest running late night variety TV show on GMA, Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman.

Shalala was best known for sharing blind items in the funniest and most entertaining way.

John Nite was also one of the co-hosts in the said show and has become one of Shalala's dear friends.

In the wake of Shalala's death, John Nite paid tribute to his beloved friend by sharing their last photos together, which wweretaken 2 weeks ago.

Part of John's Facebook post reads, “OUR KA-FAM IS DEEPLY SADDENED AS HIS LAST FEW WORDS TO US WERE " MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT SA INYONG LAHAT , KAY MAM CECILLE ,SIR PETE AT RAOUL, WILBERT TOLENTINO.... OK NA AKO ..." IN SUPPORT LAHAT UP TO HIS LAST BREATH SA HOSPITAL TO DO WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ... WILL MISS YOU ... ”

Aside from Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman, Shalala was also a co-host of the Kapuso comedy talk show, CelebriTV, which was also hosted by Joey de Leon, Ai-Ai delas Alas, and Lolit Solis.

He also appeared in other Kapuso programs such as StarStruck, Magpakailanman, Pepito Manaloto, Sunday Pinasaya, and Mars Pa More.

Shalala also went on to host shows in other TV networks and radio stations, and has appeared in a number of films.
