'Emily in Paris' actress Lily Collins stars in '90s toy-inspired film

'Emily in Paris' star Lily Collins is set to leave her glamorous adult life as Emily Cooper behind for a while, as she delves into the micro world of Pollyville for the upcoming Polly Pocket movie.

You read that right. The iconic '90s toy, Polly Pocket, is getting its own movie, which will be written and directed by 'Girls' creator, Lena Dunham, and produced by Lily herself.

The live-action film will revolve around the story of a “young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship.”

Lily Collins took to Instagram to share her excitement over her new film project.

She shared a throwback photo of her younger self with the classic '90s toy and another one that shows what a micro-sized Little Lil would look like.

She captioned it: “Little Lil, big news. As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pockets, it's a real dream come true to announce this project!

“I am partnering with the most inspiring powerhouse team -- Robbie Brenner, @lenadunham, @mattel and @mgmstudios -- to reintroduce Polly to the world in a fun, modern way… bringing these tiny toys to the big screen.

“Truly so excited to be coming on as both a producer and Polly herself! Can't wait to dive into this pastel world…”

Lena Dunham also shared her own memory of playing with Polly Pocket and what working on the film meant to her.

“Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me,” Lena said in a statement. “Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it's pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel, and MGM.”

Polly Pocket is the second Mattel toy that will be brought to the silver screen. The first one that was announced in late December of 2020 is the Barbie movie, which is set to star Margot Robbie in the titular role.

Aside from the upcoming film, the micro-doll line has also inspired a web series and a TV show.

And it joins the long list of toys that inspire movies such as the Transformers, Lego, Care Bears, Trolls, Battleship, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Play-Doh, and Monopoly.
