Coldplay and BTS achieve Hot 100 #1 with 'My Universe'

By Ron Lim

The Coldplay and BTS collaborative single is a smashing success as it debuts at the top of Billboard Hot 100 chart.

According to Billboard, “My Universe” topped the charts for the week of October 9. The music publication says the song pulled in 11.5 million U.S. streams and 5.5 million radio airplay audience impressions and sold 127,000 downloads and physical singles combined.

“My Universe” is BTS' sixth number one single in the space of a year, and is Coldplay's second one since 2008's “Viva La Vida.” It is also the first number one song by two co-billed lead groups.

The stellar results come after both groups have expressed their admiration and appreciation of each other's work, as shown in the 13-minute “Inside My Universe” documentary posted on the BANGTANTV YouTube channel.

In the two days that the video documented, both BTS and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin emphasized how both of their work promotes messages of togetherness.

The two bands also expressed their admiration of appreciation of each other, with BTS calling Coldplay “legendary performers,” while Chris pointed out the “unusual structures and different melodies” BTS have in their songs.

As of this writing, the documentary has more than 12 million views.

The new Hot 100 single will also be great motivation for BTS as the pop supergroup starts to gear up for an online concert this October 24 and four offline concerts at the SoFi Stadium.
