Miss Intercontinental 2021 Cindy Obeñita receives fairytale-like homecoming in Misamis Oriental

By Racquel Quieta

It's been two weeks since Philippine bet Cinderella Obeñita, or simply Cindy, bested 72 other candidates from around the world and was crowned as Miss Intercontinental 2021.

Cindy is the second Filipina to win the coveted crown after Karen Gallman of Bohol first won the title in 2018.

And after her historic victory in Egypt, where the 49th Miss Intercontinental pageant was held, Cindy recently flew back home to celebrate with her kababayans in Misamis Oriental and her homecoming was aptly fairytale-like.

For her homecoming parade, Cindy boarded a float adorned with beautiful white, gold, and purple flowers, and she looked regal in a shiny strapless gown and chandelier earrings.

She smiled and said hi to the people in her home province as she proudly waved the Philippine flag.

Cindy also made a courtesy call to Misamis Oriental governor Bambi Emano.

Plus, she also visited her alma mater, the Liceo de Cagayan University.

In an Instagram post, Cindy thanked her alma mater for the warm welcome and looked back at her journey as a beauty queen.

Part of Cindy's post reads, “It was not a walk in the park to be able to challenge the giants of pageantry. I competed against Latinas who went there to win and not just take part. I came face-to-face against Asians who are all powerhouse countries that never wants to fail. All in all, we bested 72 countries across continents.”

She then expressed gratitude to her former school, as well as her teachers, who helped hone her into the woman she is now.

“I am thankful that Liceo prepared me for this. My first pasarela was tested on the pageant stages of Liceo. So, I will never forget that in these walls, I started to build my confidence that pushed me to be where I am now."

“So, once again, daghan kaayong salamat. To my teachers, you saw my growth --- I hope I made you super proud! To all Liceans who showed their love and support, my sincerest gratitude! Nil Sine Numine!”
