Grammy-winning hitmaker Avril Lavigne revealed that her 2002 single “Sk8r Boi” will be adapted into a movie.
“Recently with it being almost the 20th anniversary, a lot of people have been asking me to play this song on some TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up and people will always reference it to me. And, I'm actually going to turn this song into a film and take it to the next level,” she said on the She is the Voice iHeartRadio podcast.
Avril also delved into the story that inspired the track, saying, “You know what it was like in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there's like skaters, preps, and jocks. And it's kind of like a missed opportunity at love.”
She continued to say that it was about a skater boy who falls in love with an out-of-his-league preppy girl. Fast-tracking the story by five years, the girl is now alone while feeding her baby as she thinks about what life would have been if she didn't succumb to society's expectations and followed her heart instead.

The “Complicated” songstress also emphasized the importance of being authentic and true to one's art especially for musicians like her who were exposed to the entertainment industry at a young age.
“Anything you do, make sure you love what you're doing and the quality of [your] art,” she said.
“Sk8r Boi” was the second single released from the pop-punk singer's debut album, Let Go. Produced and co-written by The Matrix trio, the track was nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 2003 Grammy Awards.
