PNP sees no threat in SONA 2026

No security threats have been monitored for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

According to Super Radyo dzBB's Sam Nielsen, PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that they remain on full alert and implement tight security measures.

The PNP also clarified that there will be no nationwide gun ban for this year's SONA.

There were 20,000 cops deployed to manage traffic and protests in Commonwealth Avenue and near Batasang Pambansa.

Nartatez will make rounds to inspect the police deployments. He began inspecting the deployment at the EDSA People Power Monument.

The PNP has already set up tents to serve as command posts during the SONA. Police forces have been on full alert since 5 p.m. Friday.

Police personnel have also been stationed around the Malacañang perimeter, while road closures have been implemented at Liwasang Bonifacio and Ayala Bridge, along with several traffic rerouting schemes. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/AOL, GMA News
